Trip Overview

  • Day 1, Nairobi to Johannesburg: Our Namibia adventure begins with an evening departure from Nairobi aboard Kenya Airways, leaving at 21:10 and landing in Johannesburg after midnight. On arrival we transfer to our airport hotel for check-in and a comfortable overnight stay, resting in readiness for the days ahead.
  • Day 2, Johannesburg to Windhoek and Windhoek city tour: After breakfast we check out and head to OR Tambo International Airport for our South African Airways flight to Windhoek, departing 11:40 and arriving 13:35. Our local team welcomes us and we begin our introduction to Namibia’s capital. The city tour takes in Windhoek’s most iconic landmarks, starting with the historic Christ Church and then the Independence Museum, where we gain insight into Namibia’s history, culture, and journey to independence. In the evening we enjoy a local Namibian dinner experience, sampling the culture through its food, before an early night at Town Lodge Windhoek.
  • Day 3, Windhoek to Sossusvlei: After an early breakfast we check out and set off south towards Sossusvlei, with a final short tour of Windhoek and a last chance to shop before we head into more remote country. This is mainly a travel day of roughly five to six hours, showcasing Namibia’s vast, changing landscapes across tarmac and well-maintained gravel roads. Along the way we stop at the famous Pink Fridge, one of Namibia’s most unique roadside attractions and a perfect photo opportunity. On arrival at AGAMA Lodge there is time to relax, swim, and enjoy the tranquillity of the desert before dinner and an early night ahead of the Sossusvlei excursion.
  • Day 4, Big Daddy Dune and Deadvlei experience: The earliest start of the trip. We rise around 4:30 am for tea, coffee, and light snacks, with a packed breakfast for later, and leave early to reach the Sossusvlei gate ahead of the crowds. Today’s focus is Big Daddy Dune and Deadvlei, two of Namibia’s most iconic sights, with two ways to experience them. Option one is a challenging hike to the summit of Big Daddy, the highest dune in the area, around ten kilometres in total and rewarded with panoramic Namib Desert views and a breathtaking outlook over Deadvlei. Option two is a gentler walk of about 1.5 kilometres directly to Deadvlei, the famous white clay pan dotted with ancient camel thorn trees. We return to the lodge by around 3:00 pm for pool time and rest, followed by dinner.
  • Day 5, Sossusvlei to Solitaire to Langstrand: After breakfast we depart at 8:00 am for the Atlantic coast, a drive of roughly six to seven hours across ever-changing landscapes, moving from gravel roads onto tarmac as we near the sea. We pause at Solitaire, a small desert settlement and one of Namibia’s most famous stopovers, known for its vintage vehicles, old church, and pioneering charm. Reaching the coast in the early afternoon, our first stop is Walvis Bay, Namibia’s main port town and the gateway to its coastal adventures, before a quad biking experience across the Namib Desert dunes. We then continue to Langstrand and check into Bay View Resort Namibia, with the rest of the day at leisure by the pool, beach, and ocean. The coast is noticeably cooler than the desert, so a light jacket is recommended.
  • Day 6, Marine Cruise and Desert Safari experience: One of the highlights of the trip. After breakfast we depart for the Walvis Bay Waterfront, boarding our marine cruise at 9:00 am for roughly three hours on the water, watching for Cape fur seals, pelicans, dolphins, and, with luck, whales, while enjoying refreshments and drinks. We then return to the waterfront where 4×4 vehicles take us on the Desert Safari to Sandwich Harbour, one of the very few places on earth where towering dunes meet the Atlantic in such dramatic fashion, with a visit to the Pink Lake and scenic photography stops along the way. The cruise and safari are widely regarded as the signature highlights of any Namibia visit. We return to the waterfront in the early evening, with the rest of the night at leisure. Please note the order of activities may be adjusted for weather, tides, and safety.
  • Day 7, Swakopmund to Windhoek: After breakfast we check out and begin the journey back to Windhoek, a smoother drive of four to five hours on tarmac. Before leaving the coast we enjoy a brief tour of Swakopmund, a charming seaside town known for its German-inspired architecture and palm-lined streets. En route we stop in Katutura to sample local Namibian cuisine, including the famous Kapana and Pap, then continue to Windhoek for check-in, with time for last-minute shopping at Grove Mall. In the evening we gather for our signature farewell dinner at Joe’s Beerhouse, one of Windhoek’s most iconic restaurants, before our final night at Town Lodge Windhoek.
  • Day 8, Windhoek to Johannesburg to Nairobi: Our Namibia adventure draws to a close. The morning is at leisure before we check out at midday and transfer to Hosea Kutako International Airport for our South African Airways flight to Johannesburg. On arrival there is time to explore the shops, restaurants, and duty-free outlets at OR Tambo before connecting to our overnight Kenya Airways flight home, arriving in Nairobi in the early hours of the following morning.
